Lausanne, Start Your Engines!

LAUSANNE – This is the week. Only a few more days until Barcraft Switzerland Lausanne #1, the promotion machinery is running. This time not only with forum- and news-spamming on the online community pages, but also appearances on radio shows and printed flyers for the real-worlders – powered by our partner for this event, the Swiss Gamers Network.

Right now, the event on Facebook registers 91 confirmations and 48 who will maybe attend – that is incredible! Chances are, the size of this Barcraft may blow the Zurich-events out of the water. The conditions definitely were in favor of a kick-ass event. When organizing the event in Lausanne, the team could build on the experience of the Zurich organizers, as well as on the promotional skills of our partner, the Swiss Gamers Network.

Now, with the event finally being in sight, it is the turn of the Lausanne organizers Nicolas Meynet, Cyril Dettwiler, Mike Magnin and Sandro Dall’Aglio, to directly address you with their statements.

Cyril: Hi everyone, my name is Cyril, and I study economics in Lausanne. I’m really motivated for this first Barcraft in Lausanne. I began with watching streams in our appartment with my roommates, when we heard about BarCraft and that there was one in Zurich. So we simply found us asking ourselves: “Why not organize a BarCraft in Lausanne ?”.

Nicolas: I’ve been a eSport enthusiast for a long time now. I remember, back in the WarCraft III days, watching pro-replays and attending events such as the ESWC, where I could meet a lot of people sharing the same passion. I always wanted to do something to help eSport being recognized as a real discipline involving - as in traditional sports - passion, fun and dedication. When I learned that some people were organizing a BarCraft in Switzerland, I realized that it would be so cool to build something with them! And finally, today, BarCraft Lausanne #1 is arriving! I really hope that our initiatives will help Switzerland to build a strong and vivid community.

Mike: Hey guys! My name is Mike and I am 25 years old. My foremost motivation for this Barcraft is to gather as much of the StarCraft community as possible in a bar to share some moments of fun. Meet this Sunday May 20th, discuss the imba atmosphere, follow the live matches with a beer in the hand as you usually would for a big football match. If we succeed, I believe it means we have managed to contribute to the advance of Esport in Switzerland. I am very proud of having been able to organize this event in Lausanne! I’m looking forward to seeing all of you!

Sandro: Hi Starcraft 2 enthusiasts ! I’m Sandro, I’m working in a game shop in Nyon and in the Swiss Gamers Network comittee. I was not a big fan of e-sport until Starcraft 2. I’m more a solo or coop player, and I like video games for their new way of storytelling. However, 2 years ago I bought Starcraft 2 and I fell in love with its multiplayer and e-sport community. Last year, with my friends from the Swiss Gamers Network we thought that it was time to organize a Barcraft in Lausanne. We join our force with Barcraft.ch through Nicolas, Mike and Cyril who had the same objective. Today, like force fields and storms to kill marines (My life for Aiur), we collaborate to offer you the best event possible on Sunday 20 May 2012. See you there!

So yeah, we’re experimenting a bit with bringing to you a multi-language blog where you can choose between different languages of our posts. SpringHack BarCraft Conquers the Press

ZURICH – It has been a successful weekend, for foreigners as well as for South Koreans - and especially for BarCraft Switzerland! While Sweden celebrates the local eSport hero Marcus “ThorZaIN” Eklöf, the champion of the DreamHack EIZO Open Stockhom, the South Korean player Park “DongRaeGu” Soo Ho was able to take down all his opponents at the MLG Spring Arena in New York. And in Zurich? Here we celebrate BarCraft Switzerland’s first appearance in the press!

It might not have been the busiest of days for BarCraft Switzerland, it was an oustandingly busy weekend for the professional StarCraft II scene nevertheless. An impressive list of names could be found on the competitor lists for both, DreamHack EIZO Open in Stockholm and the Major League Gaming Spring Arena in New York. Reason enough for a Swiss journalist to show up at the Oliver Twist Pub in Zurich, take some pictures, do some interviews and experience the captivating power of eSports – at a Barcraft. A DreamHack with Spring Fever

ZURICH, STOCKHOLM, NEW YORK - The stages are set, the schedules are fixed and the players and casters are already shifting nervously in their chairs. DreamHack EIZO Open Stockholm on April 21-22, and the first MLG Spring Arena starting tomorrow, April 20-22, promise to be a blast. And so does BarCraft Switzerland #5 SpringHack.

The MLG schedule has been clear for a while already, and now, just in time – as in: “only a few short days in advance to avoid panic” – DreamHack EIZO Open Stockholm finally managed to announce the official tournament schedule as well! To give you the chance to follow actions of both events, we will be taking turns on showing games of the MLG Spring Arena, which starts only at 8pm (CEST), and DreamHack Open, which will already start broadcasting in the morning but become the most interesting around 4pm (CEST). Eventually however, the finals for both tournaments will fall into a timeframe, that may make it possible for us to watch at the BarCraft (DreamHack Final: 10.30pm CEST; MLG Final: 11pm CEST) – we will have to decide which one you prefer! Barcraft Switzerland #5 DreamHack EIZO Open & MLG Spring Arena

ZURICH – DreamHack Open in Stockholm and the first of two Arena events of MLG’s Spring Season in New York! Obviously April 20-22 promise a ton of epic eSport on a single weekend! It seems only logical, that such a weekend must not pass without a BarCraft!

Tell your family, friends & foes to BarCraft Switzerland #5! Enthusiasts and casual gamers, barcraft-firsttimers as well as veterans, and most definitely hungry and thirsty Irish pub fans gather on Sunday, April 22nd, at the Oliver Twist Pub (Rindermarkt 6, 8001 Zurich) – the vibrant center of the Niederdorf district in Zurich. Official BarCraft Switzerland Forum

ZURICH – You despise social networks but still would love to join the barcraft community in vivid discussions and Starcraft smacktalk? Then esportblog.ch and Barcraft Switzerland finally have a solution for you: the official BarCraft Switzerland Forum!

The E-Sport Blog (www.esportblog.ch) is a recently re-launched hot spot for staying up to date on what is going on in the Swiss eSport scene. With a new look and several new features, the blog, that began as a news-portal only, has now introduced a community forum for a wide range of games and topics. In an attempt to counteract the scattering in the Swiss gaming community, BarCraft Switzerland and E-Sport Blog decided to work hand in hand, when it comes to bringing Swiss gamers togehter. Although the Blog is mostly in German – no worries, the BarCraft Forum is in English -, we encourage all gamers in Switzerland to drop by, say hello and show us, clueless German-speakers, that there is an impressive eSports world beyond the Röstigraben and the Gotthard.

BrunchCraft Pictures on GSTL Stream

LAS VEGAS - Surely, many of you enjoyed the IPL 4, featuring the finals of the Global StarCraft II Team League (GSTL) last weekend. While the games was awesome, it was the commercial breaks that were truely epic – for Barcraft Switzerland!

Approximatley one hour, twelve minutes and 50 seconds into the IPL 4 stream (http://bit.ly/Iea69h) the picture switched from the players to a commercial break. Straight into a series of more than a dozen pictures exclusively from Barcraft Switzerland’s first GSL BrunchCraft! Have you ever dreamed of being featured on a stream that is being watched live, by 50k viewers? Than the events of Barcraft Switzerland are obviously the place to be to increase your chances ;)

Stay tuned for N°5! <3 eSports

Next Barcraft for Spring Arena

ZURICH – Less than a week after the most recent Barcraft, the team already decided on the date for the next event. Barcraft Switzerland #5 will be taking place on Sunday, April 22nd for the final day of the MLG Spring Arena in New York City – and it may feature the one or the other facelift!

The Major League Gaming Winter Season is over. So let’s not waste too much time and better get started with the Spring season! In contrast to Winter, the Spring will consist of a Championship event and not one, but two (!) Arena events! Unfortunately, the MLG Pro Circuit Spring Championship (June 8-10 in Anaheim, CA) falls onto the same weekend as the start of the European Football Championships 2012 (June 9). Implying that it will be impossible to find a bar that is willing to rather host 80 nerds than a ridiculousillion of non-stop-drinking football hools. However, luckily enough there are two Barcraft-worthy Arenas which should be particullarily interesting for those of you, who reject the idea of paying 20$ just to watch a single tournament.
